Periodically we share notices of scams that come to our attention.
Earlier this week a one of our clients received a call from a scammer pretending to be Tech Support. The purpose of this call was to provide assistance (even when there were no issues). The call was from an unknown number as the scammer spoofed the Caller ID to a dental office in Florida. The scammer requested that the user press Windows+R key to check event logs and based on the events will request a Video session by TeamViewer or similar applications. From the research we conducted the next step of the scam would have been to attempt to load ransomware into the system.
We are advising our clients to stay alert and not to give out any personal information to such scammers.
Please note that TetherView support staff will always identify themselves at the beginning of each call. TetherView has standard practices in place to prevent any such scammer from damaging a client’s environment. Our client was rattled by the event but we walked them through the precautions we have in place. If anyone would like to learn more about the specific precautions we have in place please contact your account representative.
