3. Different Countries (21% of 13%): Remote workers operating in different countries are at a higher risk, with 21% of respondents falling victim to cyberattacks.

4. Different Cities (15% of 72%): Those working from cities different from their company's location also face threats, with 15% having their work information stolen.

Additionally, the study highlights that remote workers using iPhones (17%) and Macs (16%) are more likely than PC (14%) and Android users (12%) to suffer information theft.

Common Cybersecurity Mistakes

The survey identifies nine common cybersecurity mistakes made by remote workers, emphasizing the need for heightened awareness and proactive security measures:

1. Failure to Encrypt Personal Data (60%)
2. Password Reuse (53%)
3. Not Using a VPN (40%)
4. Use of Public Wi-Fi (36%)
5. Failure to Back Up Data (36%)
6. Neglecting Device Updates (27%)
7. Ignoring Security Warnings (17%)
8. Lack of Two-Factor Authentication (15%)
9. Password Sharing (12%)

The study further reveals that finance industry employees are more prone to password-related lapses, while retail and professional services workers show higher rates of using public Wi-Fi and ignoring security warnings, respectively.

How Employers Can Bolster Cybersecurity

The study advocates for increased cybersecurity training among remote workers, especially in industries identified as most vulnerable. Despite the rising threat landscape, only 51% of remote employees received cybersecurity training from their employers. Key practices taught include two-factor authentication, VPN utilization, and regular device and software updates.
